  1. Hi all. I reached the four month mark this week. Can’t believe that it was been so long. I am still in pt, although only once a week…soon to be twice a month. I still have some swelling, which is impeding my full ROM. I am at a solid 130-135. My pt started me with single leg hopping today. I did ok, but not great. I tried to jog and failed is spectacular fashion. Does anyone have the same situation?

  2. Don't forget that the 4-6 month period is when your new ACL is often at its weakest. Once that new tissue develops, you will be well on your way. My PT warned me on my first fay about this little "relapse" period. You will bounce back, so don't get discouraged.

  3. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I talked to the pt about the issue of the acl being week at this stage. She told me that as long as I don’t do anything really crazy, it should be ok. And reminded me it often takes up to a year for the ACL to fully recover. It is annoying that I am still a little swollen and don’t have a really high level of activity for the summer. But, I guess it is baby steps…

  4. I didn't mean to say that you can't do anything. My PT explained that we all go through a stage where we regress a little before the ACL feels better. I read that it's a matter of equilibrium. We all get to a point where the graft has deteriorated and the new tissue isn't quite strong enough to feel solid. Just be careful and know that you have the worst over with. Hope you are having a good weekend. Cheers!

  5. im 4.5 months post op and feeling great. have been playing basketball since like 3.5 maybe like 3.75 months post op and no problems so far. ive recetnly begun to feel myself again and really gain the explosivess like before. only thing is it takes like 30 minutes usually in the morning for my knee to get warmed up, and feel good because it usually hurts for like those 30 minutes

  6. Mike, it sounds like we are in a similar situation. My surgery was on January 26. I recently started the jumping/agility training you mention, and while I have full ROM, I am not close to regular jogging yet. I also have some regular swelling and need to ice/take ibuprofen to keep it at bay. So my assumption is that you are on a normal (but yes, frustrating) recovery schedule. Bone-PT-bone graft for me.

    Snowman, you are everyone's hero.

  7. I had surgery Jan. 28th and I feel pretty much normal. ROM is 99.9% back but my leg is still super weak and the doctor said it was going to take a while for me to work back to where I was. Believe me, it's frustratinf me too!

  8. Hi all,

I reached my 5-month mark! In some ways it seems so long ago. I think I am almost ready to start jogging. I have been on the elliptical for a few weeks and have been doing a lot of jumping exercises. Unfortunately, I have a small problem with my insurance have not seen the pt for about three weeks. But, I hope that all will be cleared up. Thanks again for all of the support. Good luck to all.

  9. Hi all,

I had my 6 month follow-up with my surgeon. The good thing is that structurally, the knee looks really good. I do not have to see him again. Functionally, however, I still have a lot of work to do. He gave me a new protocol to follow, which includes a lot of treadmill work. I still have swelling, which is impeding my ROM. But, the pain is gone (comes back after the gym). The surgeon’s parting words to me was, “tell the coach you will be at practice, but not ready for the game.” He is a sports medicine guy.
