  1. Hi. My doc prescribed the donjoy Defiance (nice!) for me, and my insurance is allowing for a functional post-op rehab brace instead (an L -1832 model). This may mean that if I want the lighter brace for actual sports and real activities I have to pay for it on my own (not sure on that front, I will fight it). I'd love to hear any feedback about the efficacy of the post-op braces. I'm nearly 4 weeks post op and am weaning myself off of crutches. I've been without the immobilizer for about a week, and I have full extension and most flexion back. Hoping to get back to jogging, cycling, hiking, and even skiing as the year progresses. Any guidance is much appreciated.

  2. Hi. I've been prescribed an Ossur CTI brace. I had it a couple weeks back over the weekend but had it sent back because it fit really tight on the inside of my knee. I'm still waiting for it to be sent back with the adjustments made. From what I was able to feel in the short time I had it, it felt like it did the job. The ortho group that I'm going to used to prescribe Donjoy braces but for whatever reason they don't anymore. Everything I've read online seems to indicate that Donjoy and Ossur are amongst the top knee braces available. I did notice that Ossur does not have that "guarantee" that Donjoy has stating that they will pay $1k towards another reconstruction if you re-injure your acl while wearing their brace. I know there is alot of debate on the efficacy of knee braces but I'll take my chances and wear one rather than not. BTW, I am just over 12 weeks post-op, B-PT-B autograft.

  3. Personally I think you should get the best brace possible within your budget. see what the insurance company will cover then pay the differance. Since you're supposed to wear the brace for 2 years after surgery I recommend getting the best brace you can. I have a don joy, not sure the model but It makes me feel secure when playing lacrosse. It prevents the knee from twisting and giving out. I recommend you get one asap.

  4. I think braces vary with your doctor. There's a lot of discussion whether or not you need a functional one to return to sports, and I'm sure it also has to do with what was injured besides your ACL. My doctor and I talked about it; he didn't think braces did much other than give you mental stability and I agreed with him. I did pick up a compression brace to help with my swelling, but it was a simple $20 neoprene sleeve. It's best to talk to your doctor about this, but from my experience, I didn't need anything expensive.

  5. My ortho doctor ordered a Breg Fusion knee brace. After talking to the doctor who specializes in prosthetic and ordered it for me, I feel like I am getting a good product. His comment was that Donjoy gets the most publicity because they give away the most to the well known athletes, but others can be just as good. Its going to cost me $184, the rest will be paid by insurance. I have Blue Cross 80/20 plan. Its light weight and can be worn all day underneath my slack. I waiting eagerly to take delivery next week since I dislike the bulky leg brace which I am forced to wear while outside.

Anyone here ever used a Breg Fusion brace?
