  1. Anyone here ever have it done? I just hit the 12 week mark post-op. I've been battling this "impingement" feeling since about 3 weeks post op and taking everyone's advice as far as trying to break up the scar tissue, which I think for the most part has been successful at least superficially but I have been unable to break down the internal scarring. I feel this is the only thing that's holding me back from further progression.

I had an MRI done a couple of weeks ago and everything is intact but scar tissue doesn't always show up. My doc recommends another surgery to debride the scar tissue. I'm scheduled for 7/21 and have been trying to research this procedure. From what I've seen, it's pretty routine and it shouldn't set me back but a couple of weeks at most. Anyone ever had this surgery done after ACL reconstruction? Can you please share the rehab protocol (i.e. weight bearing, crutches, bracing)? My doc was pretty vague about the rehab part. Thanks!

  2. Hey Jagcat: I just responded to the other post then saw and read this one. . .sorry to hear about you having to have another surgery. Hopefully it is not as intrusive/intense as the original surgery. Does your PT do manual therapy on you? If not, it may be something to explore after this second procedure; especially if your body is one that produces a fair amt of scar tissue. My PT explained the reason for his manipulating my kneecap, etc (manual therapy), is to keep the movement fluid and hopefully not allow scar tissue to build up. My articulation of it is probably really elementary. . .sorry.

Good luck to you and I'll send some good mojo your way on 7/21!

  3. Hey zumbagirl! Yeah, it's unfortunate that I have to go through another surgery but I've already mentally prepared myself for that a few weeks back when I could feel the issue was not getting any better no matter what I did. yes, my PT (and I mostly) does manual therapy. Everything seems to "function" properly, patella moves fluidly and everything works except this "something" just doesn't feel right inside and I'm afraid nothing I do can target it directly. Apparently the scarring is behind the patella tendon and in front of the acl graft so it's not something anyone can get to without actually going inside again. My doc doesn't seem too concerned about the actual surgery itself as he explains it is a fairly quick procedure and not as intensive as the reconstuction. I'm praying this next surgery really resolves this problem. Thanks for you thoughts!

  4. i had scar tissue removed 2 yrs after my 1st surgery and it was a mistake for me. it helped pain for about 2 months but then it filled more where the 1st scar tissue was plus it made more scars from the surgery to take it out. now i have all the 1st scar tissue back plus more pressing nerves where it was good before that surgery. if i could i would go back to not to do it. sad

  5. From what I've read, yes that's a risk I'm willing to take right now. I've also researched where the outcome is better if you get the scar tissue removed sooner rather than later, as is the case with you. I'm only 3+ months post-op and I should be starting to jog but that's not happening. I can't even walk without feeling the impingement. I'm hoping this resolves the issue.
