  1. Hello everyone! I'm 8 days post-op and doing okay, I guess. I have major bruising and pain on top of, and to the side of my shin. It's about 1/2 way between my knee and foot. Did anyone else have this? Did they strap me down during surgery, thoughts?

  2. Did you use a patella autograph? If so, this pain is very normal with this type of graft.

  3. No, I did the allograft. I think my shin hurts more than my knee right now. Glad to hear it's normal though.

    Thanks!

  4. Well, either way your doctor had to tunnel into your shin to attach the graft.

  5. Makes sense, thanks!

  6. I did the allograft. I also had a lot of bruising halfway down my shin. My PT told me it was because of the way the blood flows through your leg -- down first and then back up. The more you do the exercises the faster it breaks up the bruising.

  7. Was the bruising really painful for you?

  8. It definitely hurt, but I don't think to the point that it was the most painful part. Most of my bruising was on the front of my shin, not the side. I wonder if that makes a difference? Do you see your doc or pt soon?

  9. I like to think I'm pretty tough :) but it's best described as pain. I have my two week follow up a week from tomorrow. My doc didn't want me to start pt until 2 weeks post-op, do you think that's weird? I have several exercises to do at home as well as 6-8 hrs on passive motion machine, per day at 90 degree. What pt stuff were you doing a week out. Maybe I can incorporate them into what I'm already doing?

  10. Frontal shin pain (right below kneecap), immediately upon standing from a laying or sitting position and lasting a duration of a few minutes, was fairly severe for me between weeks 2-3.5 post op. Happily, after this time period, it just went away and never came back.

    Time is the ultimate healer!

  11. I started in PT two days after the surgery, but wasn't going regularly (3x/week) until about 10 days-2 weeks out I think. The first week or so I was doing lots of straight leg raises whil laying on my back as well as on each side. Also, quad sets where you just try to tighten your quad muscles and hold it. And calf raises. And wall slides. And I think that was pretty much it for the first week... hope that helps!

  12. Maybe you had your boot done up to tight at the top? I've had similar symptoms as you describe in the past and that was the reason.
