I am starting to do some simple yoga exercises but have not dared to add lunges yet (11 weeks post-op). Anyone have any experience to share with me as to when it would be safe to go more aggressive in my asana practice?

How is the Yoga coming?
I'm interested to find out too. I hope to be able to do yoga and pilates again after the surgery and a few PT sessions. Had my surgery yesterday. Yes, the knee is still throbbing in spite of the ice machine and medicine. :(
I should chime in here. I started doing yoga back in June and found that it was awesome for every part of my body including the knee i had fixed up last fall. There are some poses that that put weird strain on those knees and I've mostly learned to avoid them.
If you decide to start tell your teacher about your knee condition and they should be able to suggest modifications to the class that will let you protect your knees.

You should ask your doctor about resuming exercise after surgery.
Common sense tells me that you should avoid increasing abdominal pressure for some time. Therefore, you really need to avoid poses like cobra (bhujangasana), locust (shalabhasana) and bow (danurasana). Be careful with forward bending, too.
If she needs to graduate to light exercise, after a few weeks when the incision is sealed, I'd recommend doing some exercises in a pool. It allows for fuller movement with a lot less weight.
I've used water exercise in recovering from both ankle and knee injuries. Sometimes I'd just go to the pool and walk for 45 minutes. The physical therapists recommended it.
Wouldn't try downdog however
