  1. I just wanted to post a quick update. I had my ACL recon almost 9 months ago and I'm feeling great. Today marks my one year injury anniversary, so yesterday I decided to treat myself to a few rounds at a batting cage with some friends. Although I've gone through all my physical therapy and have been working out with a personal trainer for the past few months, this was my official return to sports. I was a little nervous with my first few swings, but I can honestly say I didn't notice any weakness or tenderness. It's a long, hard road to recovery and I remember how frustrated I was in the beginning, but be patient. I can't tell you how good it will feel when you get back into your respective sport!

  2. Glad I read this today. I am 4 months and my pt started me hopping on the operated foot today. I tried to jog, but my movement was not very fluid. I am much better than even a month ago, but still not 100%. My knee still gets angry at me if a walk a lot or have a harder pt session. Is this really normal?

  3. I think it's totally normal. I'm a photographer and shot a wedding last weekend. It was a long 12 hour day on my feet and my knee was sore for a few days after. I just went back to my good ol' friend the icepack and did a lot of stretching. There were definitely times where I felt I was making no progress and got frustrated. I know I'm not 100% yet, my hamstring is still considerably weaker in my surgical leg, but I know I'll get there. I think it's important to listen to what your body is telling you. Try not to overdo it. You've gone through a massive surgery and your body is going to take a while to adjust to new parts and missing ones.

  4. Mike,

Ask your PT to push you as hard as you can go right now. I am two weeks ahead of you and once my PT "kicked it into high gear", my strength, range, and quickness increased exponentially. It sucks a bit at first but you will be amazed at your gains in just two weeks!

Sounds like you are doing great!

An "angry knee" is completely normal and should be expected. You know: No pain...No gain ;-0
Just make sure it is the; I worked my knee hard and I am sore pain!!

  5. Thanks for the reply. A few weeks ago, I asked the pt to kick it up. She added some single leg exercises and twisted me in a new way. This helped me to get solidly above 130 ROM. I am now jumping up and down (sideways too), but not ready to run yet…At least after the pain there is ice…

  6. Ok. MikeM and SquidKid, you are inspiring me. I am just over 8 weeks post-op and was just starting to get a bit frustrated then read your posts. I'm not yet doing any hopping or jogging but my PT has started progressing me to more challenging things. Agreed on the whole ice thing. . .I ended up purchasing my wrap-around ice machine cooler that was sent home with me after the surgery and it has been the best money spent ever. Ice is your friend. . .
